43 In today’s installment of “Proven Techniques that Top Retailers Use to Connect with REAL Wholesalers” we’re going to discuss possibly the most valuable resource for finding wholesale suppliers (as well as for receiving many other incidental benefits) - the Retail Industry Association. Now, I look for wholesalers in a lot of different places. Some require more work than others, and some will seem almost like common sense when you learn them. The point here is that finding real wholesale suppliers is not difficult, and anyone can do it themselves for free if they have patience, a little bit of industry knowledge, and their willing to search in many different locations.

Before you can locate the best wholesalers, you need knowledge of your industry, be it clothing, consumer electronics, auto parts, or any of a number of consumer goods categories. For this reason, I feel that the best place to get started in your supplier search is to join Retail IndustryAssociations - especially ones that deal with your specific niche. These groups will often give you access to directories of suppliers within the industry. If they don’t, it is easy to network with other members of the association to locate suppliers within the industry. And there are so manyassociations out there - from large general retail associations to smaller niche-specific ones.

Finding retail industry associations is very easy. Simply do a Google search for:

Retail Industry Associations
Retail Industry Organizations
Retail Industry Associations for Consumer Electronics, Jewelry, any specific niche
Retail Industry Organizations for Consumer Electronics, Jewelry, any specific niche

The reason that I recommend retail industry associations first is that they offer so much more to their members than just wholesale sources. The biggest advantage, even more so than connecting withwholesale distributors, is access to education. Retail industry associations often hold seminars and conventions, or they will keep you abreast of other organizations that are holding seminars and conventions. (By the way, conventions are another place where you can hook up with wholesalers.)

Retail industry associations will keep you on top of the latest news from within your industry. It is very important to keep up to date with what is going on in your industry, or else you may get left in the dust as your competitors pass you by. You will often receive valuable tips and tricks to improve your profits, and we could all use a little more profit, couldn’t we?

Finally, many of these organizations are great places to network with other business owners in your industry. It will give you a chance to meet new people with similar interests, but more imporant, there’s a great chance that you can get some support from business owners with more experience than you. Access to support is something that new business owners need more than anything, and this reason alone is enough reason to get involved with a retail industry association.

The Construction Industry - Exactly How Healthy Is It?

44 When one is considering entering a new line of work, the first thing they should do is research that given field. Certain things to consider include how that particular industry is currently doing and what are the predictions for that field. If you are considering entering into the construction field, especially as an equipment operator, you’ll find the field is thriving and should continue to do so.

First of all, there is always going to be a need for road repairs, bridge maintenance, and new constructions will continue to be needed. The government alone spends billions of dollars on construction projects each year and there does not seem to be any inclination that they will slow down. New housing developments are being created everyday in all areas of the country, as there is continually a housing shortage. The construction business is thriving.

The September 11th attacks of terrorism on the United States have had impacts on every industry in the United States and the construction industry is no exception. Due to Homeland Security, many such developments have been redesigned to further their safety in case of an act of terrorism and even moved to a different location if they are near an area that might be a target. However, theconstruction industry has not slowed down and it is as strong as ever.

The fact is the construction industry is the largest service industry in the United States. Due to the demand placed on the construction industry, most construction companies are constantly looking for individuals who are qualified to work in this field. Many individuals, however, are not qualified and they start on the bottom, hoping to get trained in areas where there is better pay.

Where do individuals wishing to get a heavy equipment operator’s education stand? With new developments and construction projects continuing to thrive, the heavy equipment operator will always have a job. In order to complete the new construction jobs, there must be someone to run the heavy equipment.

Unfortunately, with all of the natural disasters that have taken place in the United States alone, such as the flooding in California, the tornadoes in the mid-west and the hurricanes along the east coast, the construction business will continue to thrive. From road repairs and bridge reconstruction and new housing developments to commercial developments, construction companies will continually be looking for workers that are qualified.

res The next time you go out for dinner to a fancy restaurant, take a look at the staff there. Well-groomed, polite and giving timely service, they may seem less in number, but every person has a distinctive job of his or her own. But there are more people involved in the restaurant than those that are visible. From the chef to manager, therestaurant industry would be nothing without these people.

With at least one-third of adults having worked in a restaurant during some part of their life, the restaurant business is said to be the industries largest private-sector employer. According to some studies, the food and restaurant services sector is said to grow nearly 12% each year, with 1.9 million estimated jobs, out of which approximately 47,000 are management positions.

Formal Education

With most people becoming masters in the restaurant industry through sheer experience, having a valid certificate from a good school is an added advantage. Skilled staff is sought after in therestaurant industry, and the compensation is considerably better for those with formal training.

One could opt for any job, in marketing, human resources, food technology, customer relations or even business and finance management. There are courses offered by various hospitality management institutions in each of the given fields, but a person from the business arena could also fit in with management skills. The duration of courses vary from 2-4 years including the area of specialization. Some colleges also offer hand-on experience, as well as an internship. Besides this, some restaurants have their own training services. In this way, employees learn around the clock and excel as time passes.

Major Job Options In The Restaurant Industry

The hotel industry offers greater job options in administration and culinary services, hotel maintenance and marketing. Employees learn the functioning of departments such as kitchen, banquet operations, restaurants and bars. Besides the administration and human-resource functions, a manager’s job also includes recruiting new employees and monitoring the performance of the current.
An individual could be promoted from a front office trainee to a manager and further to a general manager in a matter of months, depending on the quality of work.

Next is the housekeeping department, which sometimes demands working at odd hours, and is ideal for anyone open to working under these conditions.

Coming to the most important part of the restaurant, which is the kitchen, one could work as a chef, managing and overlooking the subordinate cooks or be a food manager, monitoring the food and beverage stocks of the restaurant.

Like any other job, working in the hotel industry also requires dedication and motivation. Irrespective of the experience involved, this would apply whether your giving or being given orders. In modern times, the thinking of a customer has also changed. It is important for ahotel employee to be well groomed and practice good etiquette. Employees should keep themselves updated with the market trends and always explore new ways to enhance the business by offering better service.

There is a famous saying in the industry: “you can train skills but you can’t train personalities”; so let your personality do the talking for you. The friendly banter you may have always enjoyed would come handy when you want to make a connection with your customers. To conclude, if you relish it and therestaurant industry does appeal to you, enroll in a decent course and get a good job in your own city or anywhere in the world.

How the Beverage Vending Machine and Industry Work

bid Beverage Vending Machines didn’t just get popular. They are relatively amazing, for they were already in existence as early as 215 B.C. During this time, ancient Egyptians were using a device that has been identified to dispense holy water at places of worships after depositing a coin. In the United States, vending machines were introduced in 1888 when the Adams Gum company started to sell their penny gum products using such machines.

See your favorite beverage vending machine in a subway train station? Or the compact disc album of your favorite music artist in the corner of the town plaza? Those are just few manifestations that vending machines are popular for in America. You can see them almost everywhere you go.

From its humble beginnings, the vending machine business has started its rapid growth. A business report from 2005 states that the vending industry has increased its net sales nearly 40 percent. Starting from chewing gum, vending machines now dispenses everything from sodas to compact discs (CDs) to condoms.

The success of vending industry is attributed to the combined use of technology and mechanisms in different vending equipment. However, this article will focus its discussion of the different parts of beverage vending machines and its relative functions since it is one of the most commonly seen dispensing equipment around. Continue reading and explore what is behind the popularity and success of vending machines.

One of the pioneer products in the vending machine industry has been selling beverages. Usually, beverage vending machines work by selecting the type of beverage you want. You will be required to insert several coins or paper money; the amount will be posted on the machine, in the coin slot. Once the machine detects that the money you have deposited is sufficient enough to purchase the desired beverage, it will dispense the beverage of your choice. Modern beverage vending machines are now accepting paper bills as well as from coins.

Manufacturers of such vending machines usually make use of the same materials as a refrigerator. Platinum finishes and polystyrene panels are used to sustain the cold temperature inside the machine. In order to load the beverages, it has a large slide where the beverages are to be placed to load them into the machine. It also has selection buttons placed in front of the machines in order to facilitate the purchase of the merchandise.

At the end of each bin, the machine has a rotor that will drop the selected beverage can into a chute. The chute will serve as the cans passageway to a ramp where the merchandise will slide to the dispensing area. Presto, you have your selected beverage fresh and cold.

Each bin is equipped with a sensor on its back wall. It will detect if the contents are less than its full capacity and needs to be reloaded immediately. If it is needed to be refilled, the light on the selection button of that particular beverage will flash red.

Some of these parts are also present in other vending machines that sell other merchandise. Without these parts, vending equipment and the vending machine industry would not exist.

Play at Work: Employment Options in the Golf Industry

gid If you love to putt, you can combine work and play by getting a job in the golf industry. While many people never consider this as a potential job market unless they qualify for the PGA, the truth is that this niche field hires many thousands of people each year. The United States has more than 18,000 golf courses. Golf instruction schools, golf publications, speciality retailers, and speciality television channels all provide additional work in the golf industry as well.

There are many types of jobs in the golf industry. Some of these jobs are entrepreneurial. If you have a desire to run a business, you can lease or own golf courses or act as a general manager or owner of a speciality resort or hotel. You can also create a very profitable business by starting a golf industry retail operation or by selling golf merchandise. There is a huge market in novelties, clothing, and other items that golfers need. Inventing, designing, and selling these products are all great options for start-ups.

If you play an excellent game, you may become involved in instruction, either by teaching the game or by producing information products about the game. You can work in television, write a column, create books, or sell audio or videotapes that help others play well. You can even become a golf coach or golf recruiter, helping individuals to improve their game or helping schools uncover golfing talent while earning a living yourself.

If these options do not appeal to you, you may be interested in the service aspect of the golf industry. You can take one of the superintendent, manager, or other positions available at resorts, hotels, and golf courses. You can become a sales representative or the manager of a golf product line. You can become an assistant to golf professionals. There are also jobs for those who would enjoy grooming or maintaining greens and equipment.

The good news, obviously, is that there are many options for employment in the golf industry. Plus, when you choose employment in this field, you enjoy lots of possibilities for promotion. Many managers go on to own their own resorts, for example, and many instructors successfully publish their own books or informational products. In this field, there are always many opportunities to move up. Of course, you can also enjoy a good salary and enjoy spending time on golf as well.

This wealth of choices can also be a stumbling block, though, especially if you are not sure which jobs might suit you best. Before you start job-hunting, you may want to take stock. Carefully consider your golfing and job experiences to see whether there is a type of employment that is especially appropriate to your skills. Consider, too, whether you are willing to work around something you love. If you enjoy playing golf every weekend, decide if you really enjoy working on or near the green each day. Take careful stock of your long-term goals and plans before you decide.

Consider getting in touch with some professionals in the golf industry to ask them about their jobs. This will give you a chance to see what employment in this field is like. Casual interviews may even lead to unexpected job leads. Interviews with professionals in the field to ask about the profession can be a powerful way to tap into the hidden job market.

Consider, also, that you may need additional training or education in order to get some types of golfing jobs. If you want to sell retail products, for example, it may not be enough that you love the game. You may need to train in the art of selling, as well. Many of the well paying managerial and ownership jobs may require some business training. If you want to work at a resort or hotel, you may need a certificate in the hospitality industry to even be considered for a position. Again, speaking to someone already in the golf industry can be your best way to determine what you need in order to be successful in this field. With a little effort and a little ingenuity, you should be able to combine your love of golf with your need for a job.

ail Young professionals, graduates, and experienced workers looking to break into the airline industry may have the misconception that there is one sure-fire way of getting their dream job. Unlike other jobs where there is a clear path from university to employment, theairline industry hires a number of professionals from a variety of different backgrounds. Airline professionals throughout the United Kingdom and Europe come from an interesting array of other fields, including the armed forces, charter flights, package delivery services, and helicopter companies.

Perhaps the most popular path to the airline industry is through the armed forces. Whether it is the Royal Air Force (RAF) or another European military body, mechanics and pilots alike often get their start in the armed forces. Aside from the aspects of service to one’s country, many young professionals enter the air force in order to gain technical skills while earning a decent wage. Airline hiring managers and executives look often tothe armed forces for new personnel because they require little training and have the discipline to succeed in a tightly regimented industry.

Another path to the airline industry comes from small charter companies and regional flight services throughout the world. The reason why airline pilots and maintenance personnel often come from these types of companies is that it is a small step from charter licensing to airline licensing. Instead of hiring a young pilot who needs to ascend the licensing ladder in order to fly scheduled flights, a charter pilot already has a record with government agencies and has fewer barriers to airline licensing. As well, charter pilots and mechanics are familiar with the problems common in air flight and have a better learning curve than inexperienced personnel.

There are a variety of different experiences outside of these traditional paths that are shared by airline personnel. Package delivery services, like FedEx and UPS, now utilize international flights and regional carriers to help facilitate overseas delivery. Delivery pilots, mechanics, and other personnel are familiar with the flight controls of cargo and passenger planes. Airline companies can plug in these types of professionals when needed and not miss a beat. Helicopter pilots and other personnel with helicopter companies may not have experience with airliners but their hours of experience in the air and knowledge of flight make it an easy transition into theairline industry . Young professionals and students interested in airline careers should consider these various points of entry before committing to this career path.

3 Reasons Why You Do Not Need an Industrial Computer

Posted by admin | Posted in Industry | Posted on 19-11-2009

We all know how important computers are. No office can be without one and even in industry it is rare for processes to still be manually controlled. Computers reduce waste, increase efficiency and boost productivity.
Industrial computers have been around as long as the office PC and are an essential tool in driving down costs. But in industrial areas there are challenges for computer manufacturers as they have to design and build industrial PC’s to withstand dust, dirt, liquids and the occasional heavy impact that are commonplace elements in industrial environments.
However there are alternatives to using industrial computers. These are not only more cost effective but also offer far greater flexibility and less risk to your production processes.
Here are three reasons why you shouldn’t use an industrial computer.

1. Outdated technology.
To be rugged, industrial PCs are built solid state and often sealed to protect from the elements. This is fine except that the components inside need to be as uncomplicated as possible as any breakdown cannot be repaired on site. For this reason the operating system and many of the components are old and trusted technology - reliable but not state of the art, leaving your system out of date and possible inefficient.
A better solution is to buy a standard office PC to whatever specification you require. You can then place the PC, monitor, printer etc inside an industrial PC enclosure. These device will protect the enclosed PC from the elements whilst allowing any component to be changes within moments.

2. Cost.
Industrial computers are highly expensive. That is not to say they are not worth the money as they are built by highly skilled manufacturers but to cope with the challenges of industrial environments they have to be built to very high standards which drives the price sky high.
A better alternative is to buy a standard, off-the-shelf PC and place it in side an industrial computer enclosure. The combined cost of the desktop computer and the enclosure will probably be considerably less than the bespoke industrial computer but as the enclosure will last for decades when the PC fails, simply throw in another cheap desktop.

3. Risk of downtime.
Industrial computers are sealed and solid state, that is unlike standard PC’s they can’t be opened and have components repaired or replaced. When they go down a service engineer has to be called or even worse they have to be returned to the supplier. All this may take weeks and in the meantime you process the computer was controlling has to stop. Not so bad if it is not a critical system, but if it is, how much would that cost?
In industrial computer enclosure is far more flexible. If the enclosed PC fails (and lets face it no matter how well made or well looked after, all PC’s will eventually fail) simply take it out of the enclosure and repair/replace a component or simply stick another desktop PC back in. Even if you have no spares on site you can simply borrow an office PC, load up the software and get your production process back up and running in minutes rather than weeks.
